Awareness of cervical cancer among women aged 18-25 years in rural areas

Background: Cervical cancer is the 2nd most common in India. It cause of death developing countries. According to current global status 2016, age-standardized incidence rate cervical varies between 5.6 24.3 per 1 lakh women Human papillomavirus (HPV) responsible for subclinical/clinical lesions cancer. occurs early and strikes at productive period a woman’s life. The vaccines against HPV are bivalent (Cervarix), quadrivalent vaccine (Gardasil) was licensed country 2008 non-valent 2018. Methods: An observational study conducted on 149 rural areas from Patan taluka (Satara district). A questionnaire made after referring similar studies. Informed consent taken. validated with 9 questions given person asked fill them. Results: Awareness about 15.4%. risk factors especially genital warts, sexual activity before 18 30.4% 8.69% respectively. least commonly known symptoms were vaginal discharge (26.0%), heavy bleeding (21.7%). screening methods 8.69%. 18.75% knew vaccination Conclusions: This shows poor knowledge its symptoms, prevention population surveyed. Thus, extensive health education public along inclusion National Immunization Programme required.
